Finished!

Very happy to report a succesful finish yesterday after over seven hours of hard work, running through a shin splint starting at the 14k mark. All cardio systems were a GO but the physical components went bad especially after the 21k mark.

Click here to see a summary report of my performance during the marathon.

Thanks to all who gave encouragement and support. Together, we managed to raise a total of PHP 66,526 for the kids at PCPI!

Post-race pledges are still most welcome!!! =)

Run for Mica

Hi. My name is John Valdezco. You probably already know that I will be running in the 42km Singapore Marathon this coming December 4, 2005.

What you probably do not know is that I will be running this marathon for my beautiful niece Mica, as well as hundreds of other kids like her.

Mica is nine years old, loves surprises, and smiles all the time. Mica also has cerebral palsy and she will be going to a new treatment center at PCPI this coming December.

PCPI is a non-stock, non-profit foundation dedicated to the treatment and alleviation of Cerebral Palsy in the Philippines. Since its inception, the foundation has been in the forefront in the battle against CP. The PCPI center is the ONLY clinic in the entire country that is dedicated to the treatment of this condition. Prior to 1996, the PCPI Center was the only one of its kind in Southeast Asia. There is no Philippine government program that deals exclusively with CP in spite of the large number of cases (est. 300,000).

All the proceeds generated from this run will be donated to Philippine Cerebral Palsy, Inc. (PCPI).

Please help!

You can choose to donate an outright amount contingent upon my marathon finish, or you can go for a pay-for-performance basis: e.g. you can pledge P100/km, so if I complete just 20km, you'll be donating P2,000.

Just drop me an email at johnandching@gmail.com with your pledge and I'll get in touch with you soon. Thanks in advance!!

It costs approximately P1,500 a month or P18,000 a year to give continuous rehabilitation for 1 patient once or twice a week. Your generous support will assure cerebral palsy children in the Philippines a chance for a better life.

About Me

John Valdezco is a Senior Project Manager at Procter and Gamble Asia Pte. Ltd. He started running two years ago when P&G formed a running club in Manila, and in just 12 weeks through perseverance and training, subsequently won the New Balance 10km Corporate Cup Race for P&G last May 2003.

John likes playing soccer, races cars, and is the saxophone player of the alternative rock band Still Oz. Some of his notable achievements include winning various volleyball, soccer, choral and dance championships, winning 2nd place at the First Mazda Cup - Subic International Raceway, and climbing up to Yala base camp at 14,400 feet.

This will be the first time for him to attempt a 42km run.
